Colorado Senate OKs Repeal Of Ammunition Magazine Limits
DENVER (AP) — A bill to repeal limits on the size of ammunition magazines has cleared the Colorado Senate with three Democrats joining every Republican in passing the proposal.
The state Senate passed the measure on a 21-13 vote Tuesday. The victory for Republicans was no surprise. However, the Democrat-led House is expected to quickly defeat the bill.
The 2013 law bans the sale of ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds. It passed when Democrats controlled both chambers and they were responding to mass shootings the year before at an Aurora movie theater and Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Republicans say the law infringes on the right of gun ownership and doesn't make people safer. But Democrats argue the law improves public safety by making it more difficult to obtain large-capacity magazines.
