As a school resource officer, Leah's husband Matthew Montgomery spends a lot of his time at Broomfield High School. Hundreds of people at the school and the others he serves are doing what they can to support the Montgomery family.

To help with medical bills as Leah continues to recover, Matthew's friend and fellow police officer, Sgt. Brendan Sullivan, started a GoFundMe account to help the family with medical bills. He said the response has been overwhelming and it shows how much Matthew means to the community.

"He's impacted a lot of people in a positive way. So when he's … down and out and in a situation like this that's tragic, they're coming to help him out," Sullivan said. "So it's great to see."

Leah Montgomery is still recovering from her injuries. He mother and son were treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.

The drivers of the two cars involved in the crash haven't been identified because they are juveniles. It's not clear if they will face any charges.
