It's Up To The Sun To Clear Denver's Snow-Packed Side Streets

DENVER (CBS4) - It could be another rough ride around Denver this week, and residential plows that were out last week have pushed mounds of snow on the sides of the side-streets.

Ryan Debits, fiancé Lisa, and their dog Kahlua were out Sunday enjoying the snow where side streets still are packed with snow and ice.

"We're from Chicago, and in Chicago they plow everywhere, all side streets, everything," Debits said. "So it's kind of hard to acclimate to the snow-packed side streets."

Denver Public Works' big plows are on standby for when the flurries start to stick, but until at least 12 inches fall during prolonged freezing temperatures, residential snow plows are off duty.

"The side streets are snow-packed right now, but they are passable, even with the snow that we are forecasted to get," Denver Public Works spokeswoman Heather Burke said.

Another inch of snow Sunday night on top of already slick streets isn't something drivers like Megan Avila are looking forward to.

"It's not always the most fun, but you've got to do it," Avila said. "Side streets are still really icy. A lot of the parking lots are as well, so when I stepped out to get (her son), I almost slipped a little bit, and that was a little frightening."

"The nice thing about Colorado is that in a few days it all melts anyway," Debits said. "So it's all good."

Snow is expected to fall Sunday beginning from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. There's more snow in the forecast for Tuesday.
