Man Accused Of Mistaking SUV For His Rental, Driving Drunk & Crashing

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - A man visiting Steamboat Springs is accused of driving under the influence after he allegedly got in the wrong vehicle and then crashed.

The Steamboat Pilot & Today reported that according to an arrest affidavit, Daniel A. Sieiro-Mosti, 27, admitted to drinking. He was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI, DUI per se, and careless driving for the incident early Thursday morning.

A woman called police just after midnight Wednesday to report a stolen silver Jeep Cherokee. She told police she left her keys, purse and phone in the SUV. Police began to track her phone with tracking software, according to the Steamboat Pilot & Today.

As deputies were responding to the location of the phone in North Routt County, police in Steamboat responded to a report of an accident on Routt County Road 14. The passenger reported the crash and nobody was injured.

Police discovered the crash vehicle to be the stolen Cherokee, but the driver told police the vehicle wasn't stolen and it was his rental. After investigating police confirmed the Cherokee to be the vehicle that was reported stolen.

When police investigated the location of the alleged Cherokee theft they discovered a silver Ford Escape parked in the spot next to the where the Cherokee was. They believe Sieiro-Mosti accidentally took the wrong vehicle, got lost and crashed.
