Jefferson County Superintendent: Many Resources In Decision To Close Schools
GOLDEN, Colo. (CBS4)- Jefferson County's superintendent said he uses multiple resources to make an informed decision about whether to close schools due to inclement weather.
Jeffco Superintendent Dan McMinimee said he has employees out on the streets overnight, checking conditions, to help decide whether classes will continue or take a break.
"It's definitely not easy but I think yo always want to err on the side of safety because you have staff members and students and you have to think about the bigger community, too," said McMinimee. "We have people from the city and county that are out trying to do their job and we load the streets with a bunch of drivers and buses, it makes their job challenging as well."
He also said the predicted conditions for Thursday afternoon also played a role in the decision to cancel classes.
"Not only did we have a storm, there's another coming in, landing at 2 p.m. or 3 p.m." said McMinimee.
