DA Won't File Charges In 2014 Shooting By Denver Officer

DENVER (AP) — The district attorney says a Denver policeman who shot and wounded two brothers had reason to believe they posed a threat to the lives of his colleagues.

In a letter to Denver Police Chief Robert White that was released Friday, Dave Young, the district attorney for Adams and Broomfield counties, said he would not file criminal charges against the officer, Martin Tritschler.

Tritschler was among Denver and neighboring Aurora officers who responded last November when a truck being driven by Joel Jurado was spotted speeding in Aurora. Officers caught up with the truck in Commerce City, where Jurado and his brother and passenger were shot as officers said their truck was backing up toward two policemen.

Jurado told investigators he was shot as he reached for his phone and wallet.
