State Senator: Residents Don't Have Good Access To Oil, Gas Plans

DENVER (AP) - A Democratic lawmaker says Coloradans don't have good access to information about oil and gas drilling that might occur near homes and schools.

State Sen. Morgan Carroll of Aurora on Monday praised a website launched by the group Conservation Colorado designed to show locations in Arapahoe County in the southwest Denver area where oil and gas leases have been filed in recent years.

Carroll spoke at a news conference organized by Conservation Colorado.

She says residents are concerned about wells near schools and homes but feel powerless to do anything about it.

State oil and gas regulators could not be reached for comment Monday because of the holiday.

A state task force is due to submit recommendations next week on how much control local governments should have over well locations.
