Recreational marijuana has been legal in Colorado for more than a year, with several retail pot shops selling full marijuana "buds" instead of the typically ground-up form or smaller buds of the plant often sold through illegal means. The Perfect Petal pot shop in Denver said marijuana isn't much different than adding chocolate or wine to a flower arrangement.

"You can't do a lot because the smell is so overwhelming. It's more of a little accent here and there," Perfect Petal owner Cindy Ollig told USA Today. She said she provided a marijuana-themed floral arrangement for a wedding between two pot dispensary owners this past summer.

"They have great budgets and wanted to give a nod to their business," she added.

Keeping with the law, customers must provide their own marijuana and the florist cannot deliver the pot-infused arrangement – the buyer must pick them up from the shop.

"It's just kind of cool how the bright greens of the plant and buds go so well with fuchsia and hot pink tones. Marijuana just kind of naturally lends itself to a perfect Valentine's Day palette," said Ollig. "Plus, there's so many different strains now. A lot of them are so delicate and beautiful and really work well with floral composition."

The floral arrangement is not the first pot-infused flower offering in the area. A part-time "budtender" at High Country Healing in Alma, Colorado, began blending marijuana and traditional flowers in 2013. And Buds & Blossoms owner Bec Koop uses her Centennial shop to create custom wedding and special event bouquets that often use marijuana flowers.

"I was cutting down my own (marijuana) plant and had some extra flowers from an event laying around. I sort of had this 'aha' moment where I realized there was this perfect fusion of the two," Koop told The Cannabist. "It's really exciting to bring this new theme of freedom and legalization into the wedding industry. I'm planning on expanding to daily bouquets for customers in the next year."

Denver's Perfect Petal is taking orders through Saturday morning for same-day pot-infused flower arrangements starting at $55 per bouquet.
