Man Wanted In String Of Burglaries Almost Ran Over Police Officer
BROOMFIELD, Colo. (CBS4)- A man wanted in a string of burglaries continues to elude authorities after he almost ran over a police officer.
Police believe the suspect, Joey Dellert, is connected to break-ins in three cities in the Denver metro area.
Police last saw Dellert, 28, in a parking lot near the Siena Reservoir in Broomfield early Thursday morning.
Officers were asking Dellert about his identity and why he was there before he jumped back into his car to avoid being tased. While speeding away, he struck and dragged an officer briefly before getting away.
"It appears that he had been sleeping in his car and then he was outside of his car when the police officer attempted to contact him," said Broomfiled Police spokeswoman Joleen Reefe.
He was captured on surveillance video breaking into a club house at an apartment complex in Broomfield.
"Several burglaries and it is sheds broken into, the backs of a couple of churches, a couple of schools, so those are things specific to Broomfield," said Reefe.
Police say Dellert is a suspect in similar crimes in Wheat Ridge and Arvada. They have been on the lookout for his white BMW since early December 2014 before they spotted it near Siena Reservoir early Thursday and the officer was struck.
That officer was not seriously injured and was not taken to the hospital.
Anyone who knows the whereabouts of Dellert is asked to call police right away.
