Father-To-Be Brutally Attacked, Fighting For Life

DENVER (CBS4)- A Denver man and soon-to-be father is fighting for his life in the hospital after he was brutally attacked and stabbed during an argument.

Police said it's unclear why the men were fighting, but investigators say two men stabbed Dusten Fischer nine times, leaving him critically injured.

Fischer was involved in a fight with two other men around 2:30 a.m. Sunday near 19th and Market when one of his attackers pulled out a knife.

Authorities have charged Mario Lopez-Ramirez, 24, and Francisco Herrera, 23, in connection with the attack. They are being held on felony assault charges and are due in court later this month. Herrera bonded out of jail and Lopez-Ramirez remains in custody.

Fischer was rushed to Denver Health where he remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit.

Fischer has undergone surgery to repair a lung and major artery, in addition to numerous deep puncture wounds and lacerations. Doctors fear he may suffer permanent paralysis of his left arm due to the severity of the knife wounds.

Fischer's family released a statement that reads in part, Dusten "continues to fight for his life at the same time he and his girlfriend await the birth of their son in two weeks."
