Arrest Documents Reveal Gruesome Details About Murder

DENVER (CBS4)- The arrest affidavit in the first-degree murder investigation of a man in Denver's Sloan's Lake neighborhood is revealing some gruesome details.

The body of Francis Canham, known as Frank to some of his neighbors, was discovered inside his home on Java Court on Feb. 4 during a welfare check by police after he had not shown up for work.

Investigators have not revealed how Canham was killed but the documents do describe how his body was discovered. Canham's body was found near the front door of his home with a trail of blood leading from the dining and living room to his body.

Detectives collected a red gasoline can and matches as evidence from inside the home. They also discovered the back door had been seemingly forced open and a panel inside the door was missing.

Canham's driver's license, credit cards and cell phone were missing from the home. The suspect's fingerprints were also found near a basement window where the screen had been pulled back, according to the arrest affidavit.

The suspect, Daniel Gonzales, was arrested in Orlando, Florida, where he will be held until he returns to Denver to face first-degree murder charges. Authorities were able to track him from Canham's credit cards use.

FBI agents arrested Gonzales just one day after Canham's body was found. Officers believe he used Canham's credit card to purchase a Greyhound Bus ticket from Denver to Miami.

Investigators said it's still unclear the nature of the relationship between Gonzales and Canham. CBS4 spoke with Canham's family who said they wouldn't comment until they found out what the relationship was.
