Man Attacks Vietnam Vet In Possible Road Rage Assault

DENVER (CBS4) - A Vietnam veteran is in intensive care after being attacked in front of his home in a possible case of road rage. Police are searching for the person who beat him up in the middle of the day.

Neighbors say the suspect cut the victim off in his car several times while getting into the Hillcrest neighborhood, near Interstate 25 and East Hampden Avenue. They assume he was angry because the victim honked at him twice.

The suspect allegedly walked to the home from down the street and attacked the victim as he got out of his car.

"Then I saw something that was really shuttering ... He kicked him with his leg ... twice," said witness Dr. Gene Mahaffey.

It lasted several minutes before the suspect just walked away.

Jim Waldron said of the victim, "He's not doing good. He's got a head injury and ribs and possibly both of his wrists are broken."

The victim is recovering in the ICU at Swedish Medical Center.

Witnesses say the suspect is a younger white man who was wearing all black and a baseball cap. They say he was driving a white Isuzu SUV, and they believe -- based on how he was coming into the neighborhood -- that he is from the area.
