Boston's 6 Feet Of Snow In 30 Days Reminds Denver Of The 2006-07 Winter

DENVER (CBS4) - Do you remember the winter of 2006-07 in Denver?

It was similar to what Boston is experiencing this year in that consistent snow storms kept the city cold and left a deep blanket of snow on the ground.

It all started with a heavy dose of snow just before Christmas in December 2006.

Officially, Denver measured 20.7 inches of snow on Dec. 21 that year.

The storm shut down Denver International Airport for 45 hours, snarling air traffic across the nation.

It was the longest closure in airport history.

Higher totals were reported west and south of Denver including 42 inches in Conifer and 34 inches in extreme southeast Aurora.

Just over a week later, a second storm hit the region dropping 8 inches of snow in Denver between Dec. 29-30.

Totals over two feet were once again reported in the foothills.

Because of the cold temperatures and low sun angle the snow didn't melt.

The storms were dubbed the "Twin Holiday Blizzards" by some.

Over the next six weeks consistent weather systems kept adding to the snow on the ground.

Because of the long, cold and snowy stretch of weather Denver measured it's second longest period with measurable snowpack.

There was at least one inch or more of snow on the ground for the 61 days between Dec. 21, 2006 and Feb. 19, 2007.

Denver received 49.9 inches of snow over that time frame. Here is a listing:
