Lawmakers Delay Vote On Proposed Traffic Cameras Ban

DENVER (AP) - Lawmakers delayed a hearing on a bill to ban speeding and red-light cameras in Colorado.

The proposal was scheduled for its first vote in a House committee Wednesday. But the hearing has been rescheduled for later this month.

The idea has been pitched before but has failed despite bipartisan support.

Law enforcement opposes the bill, saying the cameras improve public safety. But lawmakers who support the bill worry the cameras are being used as revenue generators.

Ten states prohibit the use of photo radar or red-light camera enforcement, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
