Deer Fence Reduces Crashes On Stretch Of Colorado Toll Road
AURORA, Colo. (AP) - Managers of a toll road along Denver's eastern edge say new fencing has significantly cut deer-car collisions along a troublesome stretch.
The E-470 Public Highway Authority announced Tuesday that after deer fencing was installed in 2013 at a cost of $810,000 on both sides of a five-mile stretch in Aurora and northern Douglas County, collisions dropped from 20 in 2013 to three last year.
In 2012, 33 out of 71 deer-vehicle collisions along the highway's entire 47 miles were recorded along the five-mile stretch. In 2013, the hot spot saw 20 of a total of 31.
But overall, the pace of collisions kept up in 2014, with 32 recorded along all 47 miles that year. Managers have not identified another hot spot.
