Superintendent Arrested On Suspicion Of DUI Apologizes

ROUTT COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - A school superintendent in the Steamboat Springs area has been arrested on suspicion of DUI.

Trudy Vader works for the Hayden School District near Steamboat Springs.

She was reportedly driving home from court -- where she testified at a rape trial -- when her truck got stuck in the snow. A Good Samaritan stopped to help Vader on Highway 131 near the town of Yampa.

Deputies then arrived on the scene, and found Vader disoriented and confused. Deputies said her eyes were bloodshot and glassy and her speech was mumbling, slow and confused.

She said she had pulled off the road into a wide spot. Deputies noted she was barely off the highway and asked her if she had anything to drink that night.

Vader first told officers she'd taken a pain reliever and a muscle relaxer several hours before, but later admitted to having two glasses of wine.

In a statement, Vader apologized to the Hayden community and students, saying "I will be responsible for my accountability in regards to this matter and do whatever it takes to diligently regain your trust and support."

She's charged with driving under the influence, careless driving and not having insurance. Vader will be in court on Feb. 24.
