Suspected Repeat Vandal Caught On Camera

FEDERAL HEIGHTS, Colo. (CBS4) - A homeowner in Federal Heights says he's been repeatedly targeted by vandals, and this time he caught a man on video trashing his car.

The vandal did nearly $2,000 worth of damage this time. First he used something sharp -- possibly a screwdriver -- to stab two of the victims' SUV tires. Then he threw large rocks at the SUV's back window.

Jeff Cox took a closer look at what his security cameras captured outside his home, and watched a man throw a large rock right at the front of his house. "That would be the noise that woke us up," said Cox.

It was just after 4 a.m. when Cox and his wife Sandy Sugerman were startled by the sound. He said, "I go out, looking around, and I finally notice glass in my walk."

"And he yelled in, 'Call 911, someone's broken the window,'" described Sugerman.

As surveillance video shows, minutes before the suspect threw a rock at the house, he threw one through the rear window of Cox's SUV. And just before that he repeatedly stabbed two of the tires.

"I counted 31 attempts at jabbing the tire," said Cox.

The couple told CBS4 they have dealt with vandals at their home many times.

"The stolen property, the paint on to the rental car, and now this," explained Cox.

"I'm constantly looking out the window like oh my gosh, what's going on. I mean, I don't sleep well at night," said Sugerman.

Cox and Sugerman believe they're being targeted, possibly by a disgruntled former neighbor.

"We have a suspicion about who it is ... and it's just a matter of catching this guy in the act," said Sugerman.

Adams County detectives are investigating this recent act, but if the suspect strikes again this couple fears it could be much worse.

"I'm very scared," Sugerman said.

The suspect was driving a dark sedan that night but it's unclear who he is. Anyone with information is asked to call the Adams County Sheriff's Department.
