DENVER (AP/CBS4) - A person with knowledge of the negotiations tells The Associated Press that Denver Broncos GM John Elway is hashing out a four-year contract with Gary Kubiak to become the team's head coach.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement isn't expected to be announced until Monday.

Kubiak replaces John Fox, who was ousted last Monday following Denver's loss to Indianapolis in the playoffs.

Elway and team president Joe Ellis met with Kubiak in Houston for several hours Sunday.

CBS4's Vic Lombardi reports that the Broncos are expected to hold a news conference on Tuesday to introduce Kubiak as head coach.

Kubiak was John Elway's backup quarterback on the Denver Broncos roster from 1983 to 1991.

Kubiak spent 11 seasons as the offensive coordinator of the Broncos under Mike Shanahan and was then head coach of the Houston Texans for nearly eight seasons before being fired. The Ravens hired him as their offensive coordinator a year ago.

Kubiak went 63-66, counting the playoffs, as head coach of the Texans from 2006-13.
