Store Manager Sad Suspected Robber Lost Life In Police Chase

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - The manager of an Aurora convenience store that was robbed on Friday told CBS4 she was sad to hear the outcome of a police chase that followed the crime.

Jennifer Lamberson, manager of Fast-N-Friendly, said she received a call from a frantic employee at approximately 10:30 p.m. Thursday: the store had just been robbed. The suspect entered the store with a mask on and demanded cash.

Aurora police say they spotted the suspect car speeding away from the store with its lights off, and the passenger matched the suspect description.

The following police correspondence then took place (courtesy of Broadcastify):

Confirming this is our suspected robber in the vehicle?

Yeah, back male passenger matched the description. He had a mask in his hoodie pocket.

Copy. Authorizing chase.

The chase ended about 4 miles away at 6th Avenue and Tower Road. When the suspect ran out of the car with a weapon and refused orders, officers fired, killing him.

Officers also arrested a second suspect who stayed in the car during the alleged robbery.

Lamberson said that she feels for the suspect's family, "I do. Now his family pays a price, same with anybody else here. My employees, I don't want them to be scared either."

The convenience store has eight to nine security cameras, and it's unlikely that there was much money in the register.

"It's sad somebody got killed. Over some money," she said.

The mother of the suspect who died told CBS4 that he is a father to several small children. She said her family is emotional and still trying to come to terms with what happened.
