Video: Shoplifting Suspect Punches Liquor Store Owner When Confronted

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - Video released Thursday shows a suspected shoplifter punching a liquor store owner in the face, knocking out two teeth in a wild fight in Jefferson County in December.

When the suspect entered the store on Dec. 19, a clerk instantly recognized him as someone he believes stole two bottles of liquor several weeks earlier. The clerk notified the store owner, who confronted the suspect by asking for his identification. The suspect responded by attacking the owner and punching him in the mouth.

The two wrestled before the owner pushed the suspect out of the store. He jumped into the passenger side of a small, foreign, blue car and fled, the sheriff's office said.

The fight happened on Highway 72 in a remote area of Coal Creek Canyon. There's a two-lane road, one gas station and the area is so small there's just one working stop light.

But a lot of regulars to the store say they're angry about an attack on someone they know well.

"(The suspect) is just lucky that four big mountain guys weren't coming in there when he was trying to rob this place because he would have been in trouble," resident Ryan Davidson said.

The suspect is described as a young white or Hispanic male with curly dark hair. He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call the Jeffco Sheriff's Office tip line at 303-271-5612.
