Caribou Ranch Music Memorabilia For Sale At Auction On Jan. 24

DENVER (CBS4) - Interested in noodling on the piano Elton John used to write "Philadelphia Freedom" and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me"?

What about owning the same red three-wheeler Michael Jackson rode for a photo shoot in 1984?

Or how about a washstand used by Billy Joel?

If you're keen on owning a piece of Colorado music history, hundreds of pieces of memorabilia from the historic Caribou Ranch's studio will be auctioned off next Saturday.

From musical instruments used during album recordings to everyday items like leather couches and ashtrays, the ranch's history is up for grabs.

Caribou Ranch -- built by James Guercio in the early '70s near Nederland -- hosted dozens of singer-songwriters and groups, including John Lennon, Chicago, The Beach Boys, Frank Zappa and Carole King. Items they used -- or touched -- are up for sale.

After a fire in 1985 caused millions in damages, the studio ceased recording. The property was sold in June.

Leslie Hindman Auctioneers is conducting the auction, scheduled for Jan. 24 at 3 p.m. in the Denver Design Center's east building at 595 S. Broadway. An exhibition will precede the auction, starting Monday and running each day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
