Woman Charged With Leaving Infant Son Home Alone, Assaulting Officer

DENVER (CBS4)- A Denver woman has been formally charged with leaving her baby home alone, then driving drunk and causing a hit-and-run crash.

Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey has charged Melissa Boyd with two counts of second-degree assault of a peace officer, child abuse, driving under restraint, no proof of insurance, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and careless driving.

The charges allege that on Jan. 10, just before midnight, Boyd was suspected of driving drunk and running from the scene of a crash with another vehicle at East 12th Avenue and Logan Street. She is also accused of assaulting a Denver sheriff's deputy after her arrest and leaving her 11-month-old son at home, unattended.

Boyd remains in custody on $10,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on Friday at 9:30 a.m. to be formally advised of the charges.
