'Boogeyman' Bedroom Kidnapper Sentenced To 30 Years

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4) - A man who broke into an 8-year-old girl's bedroom in Aurora in 2013 was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with the judge calling him a boogeyman and "the bump in the night."

John Snorsky, 27, pleaded guilty in 2014 to first-degree burglary and second-degree kidnapping. He admitted to taking the girl from her bedroom window in October 2013. Investigators say he let her go when she started to scream.

But Snorsky, who admitted to being a criminal, told the judge he wasn't a child predator.

"If I wanted that girl, I would have took her, sir, and I would have really took her," he said. "There was no one there to stop me. I let her go because I did not want her."

Judge Thomas Ensor was not pleased with Snorsky's defense and said it seemed like Snorsky was bragging about his past crimes and what he did deserved a stiff punishment.

"You're a smart guy, but you're clearly full of yourself too. You have a very dark side. You are the boogeyman. You are the bump in the night," Ensor said.

The victim's father addressed Snorsky is court and said the night his daughter was taken was one of the worst days of his life.

"When I saw that my daughter was gone out of her bed, outside of her room, everything was being taken from my life," the victim's father said in court.

On Nov. 26, Snorsky asked a judge to withdraw his guilty plea because he said he believed his attorneys were lying to him. He obtained new counsel and subsequently pleaded guilty again.
