United Baggage Delay Gets Worse, Passengers Grow Frustrated

DENVER (CBS4)- The baggage delays with United Airlines have continued to get worse over the past few weeks which has prompted the head of Denver International Airport to offer to help.

Passengers with United have been forced to wait hours, some even days, in recent weeks to get their bags after landing at DIA.

"Just wondering where my bags are," said United Airlines passenger Kenneth Yellen.

On Dec. 4, 2014 United switched its baggage carrier from Sky West to Simplicity Ground for most of its flights out of DIA.

United is not blaming the company or inexperienced workers for the baggage pileups, but Yellen is.

"I had no problems before and then they made this transition and the bags are suddenly not on time any more," said Yellen.

On Wednesday Yellen's bags failed to arrive from Wichita, Kansas. He believes the new baggage company needs to be accountable for their actions.

"I think they should step up right now, especially when they're trying to fight their contract. They should be working extra harder trying to make sure the bags are here on time," said Yellen.

United Airlines spokesman Charles Hobart released this statement, "We are putting every available resource into this to help support simplicity and we are committed to improving the situation."

United also claims wait times for baggage has already improved. But that's little consolation to travelers like Yellen.

"Frustrated, trying to get on my way, get back home," said Yellen.
