Family Spends Holidays In Colorado To Care For Quads

AURORA, Colo. (CBS4)- A Kansas family spent the holidays in Colorado to care for their quadruplets who were born premature several months ago. They got a special gift as one of their children was able to come home before Christmas.

The Sallaska family welcomed their quadruplets, three boys and one girl, into the world on September 30, about 15 weeks early.

Alyssa, Carter, Bentley and Miles were all born weighing just a little more than one pound a piece.

They've been in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit since they were born. Alyssa was able to go home just before Christmas.

"They are all doing really good and I'm being told constantly by the doctors that for as early as they were that it's amazing that they're all doing so well," said Amanda.

Amanda and Grant remember the day they learned about the quadruplets.

"I remember that day in the doctor's room just like it was yesterday. We went to do an ultrasound and he's thumbing around and he goes, 'One, two...' and then he realized my five year old son was in the room and he gestures with his fingers, 'Three, four,'" said Grant.

"It was quite a roller coaster of emotions at first. We were happy because we were trying to get pregnant but four was a little more than we bargained for," said Amanda.

They are hoping to get all the babies released from the hospital by the end of January and return home to Kansas. The Sallaska family also has a 5-year-old son.
