Woman Caught On Video Stealing Packages From Porch Prompts Warning

DENVER (CBS4) - Denver police are urging people to take extra care of their packages as the holidays approach after a woman was caught on video stealing packages from the front porch of a home in Stapleton.

The packages were simply placed behind a pillar. Authorities say if they were hidden behind a wall or placed elsewhere out-of-sight the thief might have missed them.

Around dusk the video shows the suspect stopping right in front of the house, walking up a hillside, and taking the packages. The residents weren't home at the time, but the theft happened right in front of their security camera.

"What it did do is it did catch the suspect and possibly the vehicle the suspect was in, or driving, that took the packages," Detective Mary McIver said.

With the holidays nearing, Denver police say stealing packages could be a crime on the rise.

"It's always a possibility … this is that time of year when a lot of people are having things delivered and ordering things online and having them delivered to their houses," McIver said.

Authorities and delivery companies recommend requiring a signature or changing the delivery time so it can happen when someone trustworthy can receive it.

"Maybe have them delivered to work if their bosses are okay with that, or to have it delivered to a relative's house or a neighbor's house," McIver said.

Police hope somebody recognizes the woman in the video and gives them a call.
