Denver Near The Top Of Best Beer Cities For 2014

DENVER (CBS4) – It's a known fact that Coloradans love their beer, and now Denver has been named the No. 2 Best Bear City in 2014 by Livability.com.

Colorado is home to four of the 50 largest breweries in America and six of the 50 largest craft breweries in the country, according to annual numbers released in 2013 by the Boulder-based Brewers Association.

"Denver offers innovative and award-winning breweries, residents who consume beer at higher rates than the average American, sophisticated beer tastes and a high-quality of life for beer lovers," Livability.com said in a news release about the list.

Livability.com's editors took into account beer production and consumption when deciding on the list. They also considered the number of liquor stores per capita, the and the city's reputation as a beer town.

"Being a great beer city has positive implications for attracting talent, fostering business and drawing in tourists," Livability.com editor Matt Carmichael said. "But most importantly it means you have great beer."

Statistics show that Denver residents "consume beer more frequently than the average American." The city is also home to the best beer walk in the country, "where a beer lover can easily reach 20 breweries and pubs on foot."

It also doesn't hurt that Denver hosts the annual Denver for the Great American Beer Festival that attracts brewers from all over the country.

The 10 Best Beer Cities 2014 are as follows:
