Money Mystery: Deputies Search For Owner Of Envelope Full Of Cash

HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. (CBS4)- Deputies in Douglas County are working to solve what could be an expensive mystery after an envelope full of cash was found at a restaurant in Highlands Ranch.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is hoping to get the money back to its rightful owner.

The sheriff's office isn't saying how much money was found but say it was a substantial amount. They also won't say exactly where the money was found in hopes the person it belongs to will be able to provide that information.

"We really need to keep some of those details secretive that way we can find out whoever's money it is, are going to be able to tell us who it is," said Douglas County Sheriff Sgt. Ron Hanavan.

There are at least 20 restaurants within a one mile radius including Qdoba, Crave, and the Egg and I.

The money was discovered back in September. A Good Samaritan found the envelope and turned it into the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

If no one claims the cash within 30 days, it will be put into the general assembly fund. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Douglas County Sheriff's Office 303-660-7558.
