Weather Could Impact Thanksgiving Travel This Year

DENVER (CBS4) - With Thanksgiving a week away, and the recent blast of cold and snow, many wonder what lies ahead.

Long-range forecast models suggest that a colder and more active weather pattern may develop closer to Thanksgiving.

NOW THROUGH SUNDAY

If you're starting your travel plans this weekend, the main areas for active weather will be in and around the Great Lakes and in the Pacific Northwest.

A weather system will also bring a chance for rain and thunderstorms by Saturday and Sunday from Oklahoma and Texas to the east coast.

Colorado has been in a decent stretch of weather since the early season arctic blast hit last week, but as the old saying goes, 'all good things must come to an end.'

Snow will move back into the mountains by Saturday.

Colder weather will return to the central Rockies, including Denver, starting Sunday.

MONDAY THROUGH THANKSGIVING DAY

The weather pattern gets interesting for the big travel week as the jet stream threatens to bring active weather nationwide.

Denver could be looking at two different chances for snow, one as early as Monday with another around Thanksgiving.

There are some indications that an active pattern could last into the first week of December.
