Ski Season Gets Rolling With New Snow, Newly Opened Terrain

- Written By CBS4 Producer Garrett Boyd

DENVER (CBS4) - What a difference a week can make when it comes to skiing in Colorado!

After almost a month of ice, slush and warm weather the snow is incredible.

This week, I actually got to ski on powder. Plus, with the numbingly cold temperatures in Denver, the 20 and 30 degree weather in the mountains seemed balmy.

Before I hit the slopes on Friday, Keystone was reporting more than 30 inches from the storm all week. The resort even opened up new terrain.

There was plenty of space for new skiers, people who like more advanced slopes, those who use the terrain park.

However, even with additional terrain and the opening of Breckenridge on Friday, I still noticed crowds, especially waiting for a lift. The lines were insane since several lifts are still closed.

I found myself standing in line for about 20 minutes to make it back up the mountain. Although, the snow conditions made the wait totally worth it!

The crowds should improve in the coming weeks.

If this weekend is a taste of what's to come all season, we are in for a real treat! Keep those snow dances up.
