Utah Changes Ski Slogan, Settles Colorado Lawsuit
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Colorado ski resort is settling a legal fight with Salt Lake City over winter sports marketing slogans.
Steamboat Ski Resort sued in October, claiming a $1.8 million Utah advertising campaign violated its trademark on the name Ski Town, U.S.A.
Utah tourism officials have dropped 'USA' from their Ski City campaign to make it less similar to the decades-old nickname for Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Additional details of the settlement announced Friday weren't released.
The Utah campaign is designed to lure tourists in the lucrative winter sports industry away from Colorado with the area's urban dining and nightlife.
A spokesman for Steamboat said in a statement that the deal was amicable. Utah officials say they'll continue to promote the urban ski experience.
Ski resorts are expected to open later this month.
