FBI Investigation Of Henthorn Leads To California Woman

DENVER (CBS4) - CBS4 has learned that the FBI has been in contact with a 52-year-old California woman who met Harold Henthorn online and may have dated him for a brief time. She said Henthorn went by the name of "Buzz."

"He seemed kind of arrogant," said Sonserae Leese-Calver when contacted Friday by CBS4.

FBI agents contacted Leese-Calver in September after apparently discovering emails between her and Harold Henthorn from 14 years ago.

Henthorn, 58, of Highlands Ranch, has been charged with murdering his second wife, Dr. Toni Henthorn, who fell 140 feet to her death in Rocky Mountain National Park in September 2012.

She was on an anniversary hike with her husband who has denied playing a part in his wife's death. But following a two year probe, a federal grand jury indicted Henthorn on one count of murder and he was arrested last week. Henthorn is being held without bond.

Federal prosecutors also believe Henthorn may have killed his first wife, Sandra Lynn Henthorn, in 1995 in Douglas County. He has not been charged in connection with that death.

The complex murder investigation recently led to Leese-Calver of Los Angeles, who met Harold Henthorn on a Christian dating website. She told CBS4 she recalled meeting with Henthorn for coffee or dinner in California 14 years ago but remembers him as "kind of arrogant. I was turned off by it. It didn't go very far."

FBI agents apparently found Leese-Calver's emails when they searched Harold Henthorn's computer and email accounts. Federal prosecutors filed a motion Friday asking a judge in the Henthorn case to unseal 21 search warrants executed in the Henthorn investigation.

Leese–Calver said an FBI agent called her in September inquiring about her relationship with Henthorn, who she said called himself "Buzz" and said all his friends called him that. The FBI investigator then followed up by sending her a picture of Henthorn asking her to look at the photo and "see if you recall dating 'Buzz.'"
