CU Buffs Have High Hopes As College Basketball Starts

BOULDER, Colo. (CBS4) - The college basketball season tips off Friday night, and with it come high expectations for the Colorado Buffaloes men's basketball team.

They're expected to compete for the Pac-12 title and a berth in the NCAA tournament.

But don't tell coach Tad Boyle.

"Past performance is in no way, shape or form indicative of future opportunity," he said. "This is a new year. This is a brand new year for this team. The fact that we've been to four straight postseasons and three straight NCAA tournaments in no way guarantees this team that opportunity at the end of the year. You earn that opportunity for what you do throughout the season."

The Buffs' open the season at home Friday against Drexel.

CU finished 23-12 overall and 10-8 in the Pac-12 in 2013.
