2 Denver Schools Close Due To Heat Challenges

DENVER (CBS4)- Students at two schools in Denver had an extra day off during the bitter cold snap because their classrooms weren't going to be warm enough.

Both Denver Center for International Studies, or DCIS, and Noel Community Arts, located on the Montbello Campus at 5000 Crown Blvd. were closed Thursday because of ongoing heating challenges.

Some parents told CBS4 the school should have let parents know earlier that classes had been cancelled.

"They're missing out on their education, all these students. Like today, if it wasn't for CBS4 to let us know that they didn't have school, she was getting ready, I was getting ready to take her into school. They didn't even call to let us know until 7:04 when they're supposed to be in school at 7:10," said parent Sonia Soto.

Officials with Denver Public Schools said school is expected to resume at both schools on Friday.

Temperatures in Denver and the surrounding metro area dipped well below zero on Thursday morning. Temperatures were expected to reach the double digits before a warm up on Friday.
