Knife-Wielding Robber Hits South Jeffco Stores

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. (CBS4) - An armed robber threatened store clerks with knives during a brazen daylight theft in Jefferson County on Tuesday.

The sheriff's office said one robbery and an attempted robbery happened at 5000 S. Jellison Way and 9700 W. Coalmine in southern Jefferson County.

Video surveillance at one of the locations, a liquor store, shows the robber throwing a bag at the clerk, then pulling a knife. The clerk fled.

The hooded suspect, who wore a bandana to hide his face, demanded cash.

"He said, 'Put the money in the bag,' " the clerk told CBS4. "I told him that I'm going to call police... and he just left."

Unsuccessful, the suspect went to a gas station a few blocks away, the sheriff's office said. Fifteen minutes later, he used his knife to steal cash from the clerk at a Shell station.

No one was injured in either robbery.

"To know that he has a knife and that he's willing to display it to get what he needs, shows that he's brazen and bold," sheriff's spokeswoman Amber Lutrell said. "History would tell us that if they've had a successful event, a successful robbery, that they're generally going to repeat again."

The liquor store clerk said he may consider buying a gun for protection.

The sheriff's office said it doesn't have a good description of the robber, but they're hoping that because it happened in the middle of the day, someone may have seen him or have information.
