Diamond-Studded Event Exclusive To Denver Art Museum

DENVER (CBS4)- A one-of-a-kind diamond-studded event is coming exclusively to the Denver Art Museum that features priceless jewelry.

The exhibit is called "Brilliant: Cartier in the 20th Century" and features about 250 pieces of jewelry, timepieces and precious objects created between 1900 and 1975.

Museum staff are getting ready for the exhibit and carefully placed a ruby and diamond necklace belonging to Elizabeth Taylor in place on Thursday.

"Many of these pieces of jewelry are convertible in that you can wear them in more than one way. This necklace, you can wear it as a necklace or if you attach a frame to it you can wear it as a tiara as well. The frame simply adds support so it will stand on your head," said Denver Art Museum Curator Margaret Young-Sanchez.

Young-Sanchez got to choose the pieces for the exhibit herself. She said the pieces from Elizabeth Taylor just made sense.

"She was such an iconic actress. She's one of the greatest actresses of the 20th Century. She's been dead for a number of years but everybody knows Elizabeth Taylor and her movie career and she really epitomized glamour in her era as well. To be able to have a focus with a concentration of her jewelry is very special," said Young-Sanchez.

The museum also unpacked Barbra Streisand's vanity set that was made in 1927.

Cartier opens Nov. 16 and runs through March 15. Tickets for Brilliant are $15 for members and start at $25 for adult nonmembers.
