Deputy Chases Down Would-Be Burglar

DENVER, Colo. (CBS4) - An off-duty Denver Sheriff's deputy chased down a would-be burglar after the man broke a window in the deputy's Green Valley Ranch home.

The incident happened Sunday morning near the intersection of Cathay Street and 43rd Avenue.

The suspect broke into another home while trying to get away but the deputy ended up capturing him, according to police.

Neighbors said they were thankful for the deputy's actions.

"(The suspect) jumped over my fence and then all you heard was a bunch of glass and wood and everything breaking," neighbor Denise Jones told CBS4.

"(The deputy) protected the whole neighborhood."

Investigators don't believe the suspect was targeting the deputy.

That person is facing several charges including trespassing and burglary. He was taken to the hospital with injuries from broken glass after being captured.

So far the suspect's identity is not being released by police.
