1 Of 2 Women Murdered Was A Denver Culinary Student

DENVER (CBS4) - One of two women who were shot and killed at a Denver apartment complex this week was described as having a "sparkling personality."

She was killed when shots rang out at the French Quarter apartments on South Parker Road near Peoria late Wednesday night.

Nancy Worrell, 22, was one of the two women Denver police officers then found dead. Jose King, 22, was arrested on Thursday and was set to make an initial appearance in court on Friday morning on first degree murder charges.

Worrell was friends with King's roommate, who was the other woman who died. That other woman, whose name has not been released, was 19 and lived in the apartment with King where the murders happened. King and that woman were friends but not romantically linked.

Worrell's uncle Warren Worrell told CBS4 by phone that she was a culinary student in Denver. He said his niece was "really excited about the opportunity she was embarking on."

"She was always bubbly and happy and she made friends very easily," he said.

So far the motive is unclear in the case. Neighbors said King worked for an armored truck company as a security guard and often carried a gun as part of his uniform.

"You wonder why it happens to people like Nancy, because she is the last person that something like that should happen to," Warren Worrell said.
