AR-15 Rifles Stolen From Fort Collins Squad Cars

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) - Thieves stole semi-automatic rifles from two marked patrol cars in Fort Collins on Thursday night.

Police in Fort Collins are searching for two AR-15 rifles that were taken from the passenger compartments of two locked cars in a neighborhood in northeastern Fort Collins. Police said the cars were parked outside.

Officers are allowed to keep rifles in their vehicles, per department policy, as a long as they're properly secured.

"This wasn't like they were just laying on the seat or something like that," a police spokesman said. "There was a significant amount of effort to gain access to the car and then gain access to the rifle and then remove it from the car."

Police released a photo of AR-15 rifles in the hopes the public will help them find them.
