Teen Accused Of Murdering Fort Carson Couple Gets Life In Prison
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - A teenager convicted of killing a Fort Carson soldier and his pregnant wife was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison.
Last month a jury found Macyo January, 18, guilty of murdering Staff Sgt. David Dunlap and his wife Whitney Butler. The couple caught January burglarizing their home in January of 2013. January shot and killed them both.
The victims' families said they were satisfied with the life sentence and are ready to move on.
"As far as I'm concerned right now, Macyo January no longer exists. All I have left in my heart is love for my son, for Whitney and for the baby." David Dunlap's mother Marilyn Dunlap said.
January was 17 at the time of the crime, but was charged as an adult. He will be eligible for parole after serving 40 years in prison.
