Springs Man Saves Neighbor From Burning Truck

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (CBS4) - A man rescued his neighbor, who suffered a seizure and was unable to escape, from a burning truck in Colorado Springs on Friday morning.

Surveillance video shows thick smoke billowing from the truck when Steve McCallister ran over to free Dave Fulton.

"I saw the fire starting to come through the dash, so I just grabbed him and just pulled him right out of there," McCallister said.

Video shows Fulton getting into his truck to head to work. But just as he started it up, he had an epileptic seizure and slumped over with his foot  stuck on the gas pedal. The engine revved at full throttle.

"I don't remember any of it," Fulton said.

Minutes passed -- as did neighbors with their dogs -- as the cab filled with fumes and smoke.

McCallister finally raced to extinguish the flames and said he was shocked to see the truck wasn't empty.

"(I) started to put the fire out, then noticed a shadow inside the cab," he said. "There was someone inside the cab."

He told Fulton to get out and ran to call 911.

When Fulton didn't flee, McCallister rushed back to pull Fulton from the truck.

"If he hadn't been there, I would've got stuck in there," Fulton said.

"Right place, right time," McCallister said. "All I cared about was that he was all right. Everything else is replaceable."
