Fort Carson To Welcome Home 150 Soldiers

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - Fort Carson is getting ready to welcome home 150 soldiers who have been training Afghan security forces since March.

The Colorado Springs Gazette reports the soldiers with the 4th Brigade Combat Team were deployed in the Kandahar area, a former Taliban stronghold. In addition to training Afghans, the soldiers helped set the security conditions for Afghanistan's presidential and runoff elections.

The soldiers had been set to arrive Thursday morning but their arrival has been delayed until 7 a.m. Saturday. Last-minute changes in arrival times for soldier homecomings are common.

The 3,500-soldier 4th Brigade has been pulling out of Afghanistan for the past two months as part of a drawdown of American combat troops.
