Vigil Held For Teen Killed In Head-On Crash

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) - Mourners held a vigil on Friday night for one teenager killed and another seriously injured in a head-on collision one week ago.

Lyneah Dike, 17, died instantly in the crash caused by, police say, David Kenneth Bunn who was traveling at roughly 60 mph when he veered across several lanes of traffic into a northbound lane and struck the teens' car.

Dike's family and friends gathered in the parking lot of the Indian Tree Golf Club for a candlelight vigil to remember Dike and pray for Petrie.

"Lyneah taught me so many things: how to be a better person how to be a better mom," Petrie's mother said at the vigil.

Another service celebrating Dike's life will be held at El Jebel Shrine Temple on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 9:30 a.m.

"She was always smiling, a really happy person," friend Shelby Spano said.

The driver, 18-year-old Lyndsey Petrie, was injured and taken to a local hospital. She suffered a fractured pelvis and a lacerated spleen. She is still hospitalized and faces more surgeries. Doctors said it's unclear if she'll walk again.

"Walking in Monday and seeing her empty seat was really hard," friend Ariana Clouse said.

A website raising funds to help with the Dike family's costs has been set up.

Officers who responded to the accident said in an affidavit that Bunn couldn't stand, slurred his speech and smelled strongly of alcohol. Police said his blood alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit.

Bunn, 54, faces vehicular homicide and vehicular assault charges, both felonies, and is also accused of driving under the influence and driving recklessly. He was arrested after being released from the hospital.
