Challenge School On Lockdown After Suspect Flees Police

DENVER (CBS4) – A school had to be placed on lockdown after a Denver police officer was injured while attempting to stop a man suspected in a parole violation.

The incident occurred Wednesday afternoon in the 700 block of South Clinton Street. The Challenge School located at 9659 East Mississippi Avenue was placed on lockdown after the suspect was able to get away.

Police said they were chasing after a man with felony warrants near Mississippi Avenue and Dayton Street when an officer lost control and crashed a police car into a tree.

The officer may have broken an arm in the crash.

Officers searched along the Highline Canal and in neighborhoods for the suspect who ran off.

Police are looking for a white male, 5-foot-9, 200 pounds with red hair and wearing a white tank top. His name hasn't been released.

Anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts is asked to call police.
