Metro Area Residents Still Recovering From Monday's Violent Weather

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) - Some residents are still recovering from the violent weather that hit the metro area Monday afternoon.

Along Arapahoe Road on Tuesday it wasn't hard to find broken windshields, cracked mirrors, cars with dents and dismayed car dealers. One auto dealership alone says it has $4 million in damage.

"We had a pretty intense hail storm come through and put some pretty extensive damage on over 850 of our new and pre-owned vehicle," an auto dealer said.

Down the street at an Asian restaurant the roof is leaking and buckets collect dripping water leftover from Monday's hail.

"We saw the dark sky, and then all of a sudden we heard those poundings on the roof," the restaurant owner said.

Residents in a neighborhood in Englewood also got the brunt of the storm that damaged roofs of homes and vehicles with golf ball-sized hail.

One homeowner described it as a loud noise coming closer and closer. While shooting video of the storm the man had to retreat indoors because the large hail was hurting his ankles. He said he was surprised at all the damage the hail caused.

"At first I didn't think it was bad, but now, the more that I look at it, I'm starting to see very significant damage," the homeowner said. "I don't know what it costs to repair a roof, to paint a house; the windows, the screens, the fence. There's tens of thousands of dollars of damage done to this house."

Crews came through the neighborhood Tuesday morning and hauled away large loads of garbage created by the storm.

CBS4's Suzanne McCarroll talked to a roofer who has already found four houses on one block that all need new roofs.

Now begins the process of insurance claims.
