Teen Girl Killed By Possible Drunk Driver In Head-On Crash In Arvada

ARVADA, Colo. (CBS4) – A 16-year-old girl from Westminster died at the scene of a head-on crash in Arvada Friday evening.

According to Jill McGranahan with the Arvada Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. in the 7500 block of Wadsworth Boulevard.

McGranahan said a truck driven by David K. Bunn, 54, was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed.

"It then veered quickly across several lanes of traffic. The vehicle ended up in the northbound lanes of traffic where it collided with the northbound vehicle of the victims," McGranahan said in a statement.

The 18-year-old driver of the other vehicle "sustained severe injuries to her legs and pelvis."

Police believe Bunn was under the influence of alcohol and charges are pending.

"She had her whole life ahead of her and this 54-year-old gentleman made a decision that will haunt him and her family," McGranahan told CBS4. "It has a ripple effect for the rest of their lives."

The name of the injured driver hasn't been released. The girl who died has been identified as Lyneah Christine Dike, according to her aunt, Elaine Figolah. Dike attended Standley Lake High School. Figolah described her as outgoing and loved by everyone.

Figolah had strong words for the alleged drink driver that hit and killed her niece.

"Horrible; I don't understand why we keep letting this happen ... I hope he doesn't wake up," she said.

Figolah said she still remembers the very first day she met her niece.

"I keep remembering her being born, the doctor kept twirling her hair around her finger," she said.

By Saturday afternoon people began adding items to a memorial at the crash site.

School officials said there will have additional counselors at school on Monday.

A donation page has been set up to help the family with a memorial. Those who would like to help should visit youcaring.com/memorial-fundraiser/lyneah-christine.
