Thieves Steal Customers' Credit Data From Eight Colorado Jimmy John's

DENVER (CBS4) - After data thieves targeted eight Colorado Jimmy John's locations, the sandwich company says it has taken steps to shore up its digital safeguards so the theft doesn't occur again.

More than 200 locations across the country were part of the breach, including two in Denver and one each in Golden, Broomfield and Lone Tree. Stores in Longmont, Greeley and Colorado Springs were also compromised.

"As criminals are getting smarter and better at breaking in to these systems, the companies are trying to keep up. But it's a battle and it's one that oftentimes the criminals are winning," Brit Blalock with the Better Business Bureau said.

Here is a list of the stores with dates the data was stolen.

* Longmont -- 210 Ken Pratt Blvd. Suite 200 -- 6/16/2014 - 7/25/2014

* Denver -- 622 16th St. -- 6/27/2014 - 8/1/2014

* Golden -- 1299 Washington Ave. -- 6/27/2014 - 8/1/2014

* Broomfield -- 625 Flatiron Marketplace Dr. -- 7/1/2014 - 8/1/2014

* Denver -- 2325 East Colfax Ave. -- 7/1/2014 - 8/1/2014

* Colorado Springs -- 5885 Stetson Hills Blvd. -- 7/1/2014 - 8/2/2014

* Lone Tree -- 9234 Park Meadows Dr. Suite 500 -- 7/1/2014 - 8/3/2014

* Greeley -- 2644 11th Ave. Suite B -- 7/7/2014 - 8/1/2014

"It's likely to happen again. Awareness is the biggest thing here for consumers," Blalock said. "Make sure that you're checking your statements on a regular basis, daily basis, if you feel like you may be one of the people who was affected."
