Sexual Exploitation Suspect Appears In Court With Partner

DENVER (CBS4) – The sexual orientation of a 22-year-old school security guard accused of sending sexual text messages to female may come into play if the case goes to trial.

Enrique Vega was a school security guard at South High School. He's now been put on leave.

Investigators say in August Vega sent sexual messages to students and attempted to lure at least one female student into a sexual relationship.

Vega is facing two counts of sexual exploitation of a child and one count of attempted sexual assault on a child.

Denver's district attorney says Vega's sexual orientation may come in to play if the case goes to trial as Vega appeared in court Tuesday with his apparent partner.

"Other claims that perhaps the defendant wouldn't have a sexual interest in these particular victims would be something that would have to be dealt with during the court trial. It might a matter for a jury to decide," Lynn Kimbrough with the district attorney's office said.

Vega is currently out on $25,000 bond. His next court date is Oct. 16.
