Group Hits Rep. Coffman On 'Dark' Money

DENVER (AP) - A group hoping to combat secret money in politics is airing an ad against Rep. Mike Coffman.

CounterPAC accuses Coffman of refusing to reject support from third party groups that don't disclose their donors. Coffman is a Republican. His Democratic opponent, Andrew Romanoff, said he'd tell those groups not to help him if Coffman did the same.

Coffman's campaign has rejected that deal, calling it a distraction and noting that Romanoff also has a history of benefiting from big money in politics.

The ad hits Coffman for his stance and asks who is supporting the three-term congressman. "It's still a secret," the narrator says.

The race is one of the most competitive in the country. Outside groups have already spent more than $1 million on behalf of the two candidates.
