Youth Health Groups Mulling Ways To Keep Kids From Pot Edibles

DENVER (CBS4) - On Thursday night, a youth health advocacy group discussed ways to keep children from unknowingly ingesting marijuana-infused products that may look like candy or baked goods.

The group says childproof packaging and warning labels are not enough.

"Certainly safe storage education is our first concern, our first line of defense, but (it's also) certainly teaching parent or children or both to recognize what that symbol means," one of the group's members said.

A bipartisan bill in the state legislature will require all food products containing marijuana to be clearly marked.

Edible products -- like candy, granola, and cookies -- make up an estimated 40 percent of the entire retail marijuana market.
